Why Choose Andréa and Portland Laughter Yoga?
Since 2009, I have lead more than ten trainings and trained nearly 100 students. Several students have become Laughter Yoga Teachers themselves and are spreading Laughter Yoga to their communities (OR, WA, MT, NH). I started the Awakenings Laughter Club, which was the first weekly Laughter Club in Portland to stand the test of time. I currently co-lead at the Hawthorne Laughter Club along with some of my alumni. We have a small, supportive, community-lead club which has been going since 2010 (2011 at the Hawthorne Movement Center studio). I have an open, loving and accepting style of teaching. My ability to meet people where they are and be present with them is a large piece of why many of my students feel confident in taking laughter out into their part of the world. A previous student described me as "the approachable expert." You will not regret training with me!
I have wanted to learn Laughter Yoga ever since my mentor, Jack Canfield, introduced me to it several years ago. I have used it in seminars as a way of bringing energy back into the group, as a way of encouraging deep breathing, and as a way of breaking down barriers between people. I am excited to continue to use it – this time as a fully trained leader, and will use it as a further business opportunity.
I appreciated Andrea’s amazing storehouse of knowledge, her careful insistence on accuracy regarding the benefits of laughter yoga, and her rich and vibrant laughter and generosity. It was a pleasure to be with her for the weekend, and I learned a great deal. I would highly recommend her as a teacher. ~ Michelle Nagel, Women’s Empowerment Coach, Creator of the Soul Shift process
As of 2019, I have 11 years of Laughter Yoga and laughter related experience, plus a lot of life experience packed into my 43 years (caregiving, becoming a widow, my own chronic illness & more). I have been leading clubs and classes since the fall of 2008, monthly Laughter Meditations since 2015 and I have continued my laughter education with several Laughter Coaching certifications, Laughter Wellness training and various national conferences. In addition, I have been in the local media for laughter numerous times. in 2018, I was awarded the title of Laughter Ambassador by Dr. Madan Kataria, the Indian Laughter Guru.
I have a passion for laughter and my students, which means my support continues beyond graduation. I am not competitive and often pass along laughter business opportunities to students. I have corporate training and speaking experience, yet I offer my training in a relaxed, low-pressure manner. Fun and flexibility! I have continued to adapt my training. While I still follow the guidelines from Laughter Yoga International, I have expanded the hours and information over time in an effort to help my students feel confident about actually leading laughter. My intention is to help you feel confident to leave the training and actually lead, if that is your goal, not just have a fun weekend.
I have worked with almost every type of audience (seniors, kids, corporate, non-profits, persons w/ disabilities, prisoners, birthdays & celebrations, homeless/people in transition from homelessness, the blind, deaf and more.) And if I haven't worked with the population you are interested in, I probably know people in the global laughter community who have! The world-wide Laughter community is connected and always willing to help. The community and connection is a big piece of why laughter is so healing. I have a background in coaching and transpersonal psychology, in addition to years in customer service, employee training & development and employee health & safety.
